Felix has died.

I can't believe how long it has been since I last posted. I have had a great time reading other people's blogs so thought I should update mine. Sadly Felix died. We had known him for 10 years and 6months but he was closer to 12 years in age. He was a lovely cat who got ill and lost a lot of weight very suddenly due to a bowel tumour. We decided to let him go with dignity rather than get ourselves into debt and increase his suffering. The vet agreed that it was a good decision as he could not guarantee that he would benefit. It was a very peaceful ending and he is buried in the garden next to Lizzy, which should give them some fun. I like to think of them in a world where there is always food on demand, doors are opened when necessary, the weather is always lovely, there's no suffering, pretty much their prime years with us.

Wednesday, 13 July

It's day 4 of this heatwave here in London, and it is hot, hot, hot. In fact it was so hot that I took the car to go shopping rather than walk, it was 27 from the car at 9.31 when Sam and I left the house. I had to go to Woolworths to get the DVD for Evolution which I bought yesterday but the bloke forgot to put in the cover. I also bought a sports bottle for Sam as he is a little old for bottles now. He loves it! After Woolworths we mooched round town, as i wanted to get my money's worth for the parking fee. In Oxfam I found a book on rabbits and ballet for Tessa and a book of verse and nursery rhymes forSam.

We got home by 10.20 and unusually Sam wasn't at all tired so I started cooking, I've made mince for tonight in the slowcooker, matzo lemon biscuits (which I've since binned) and some apricot bread as well as some syrup for sorbet. I'm planning on some strawberry sorbet for tonight in the ice cream machine.

After lunch Sam went to bed, but after 40 mins I could hear him moaning which is really not him so I eventually dosed him with Calpol and Nurofen and he's now sleeping peacefully but not for long as I have to wake him up to collect the others from school then it's off to ballet to watch Tessa.

Tessa did great at her ballet, I just wish Sam could do better at watching without having to add his comments and move about, I lasted 25 mins which is better than normal, but Uggh.

Jamie went on his Beaver ramble, something he really enjoyed, although eh nearly didn't go as he didn't have a teddy bear with him, but they let him pick one fo their spare ones which they let him take home with him which was very kind.

Michael didn't get back home till late, 23:15, he woke me just after 10pm to say he was on his way, so I managed to get the kitchen together, make the bread and boil up some fresh rice ready for his arrival, and we chatted for a while as it was so nice unlike the daytime which is just too hot.
